"THE SCHOOL OF LIFE" - Different ages - different experiences

STOP PRESS PLEASE HELP - We are urgently seeking some older volunteers to help with knitting and sewing projects at Tennyson Road Infants School in Rushden. Those willing to take part will need to have a CRB check. We are busy planning a knitting event to be held at Irchester Library on 8th March.

Following a successful pilot project, The School of Life has been awarded 3 year Lottery funding.

Working in partnership with South Northants Volunteer Bureau and Northampton Volunteering Centre this exciting project will help to further embed intergenerational activities across the county.

The "School of Life" project will provide support, learning skills and development between the two generations through activities, sessions and events that are coordinated across the county.

Sharing skills and activities includes bringing back forgotten skills and games (knitting, sewing, cooking & gardening) which reduces isolation for older people who show these skills to younger people and also brings younger people together and enables them to share their more modern skills i.e. Wii, dance, mobile phone & digital camera technology with older people. It's win, win all round!

A staggering 82 children recently signed up to learn to knit and a group of enthusiastic older people were only too keen to help. Art groups, choirs and gardening projects have been favourite too.

Please step forward to offer your support for this valuable project whether under 25 years or over 50 years and if you are a school, college or other statutory group please contact us if you would like your young people to become involved.
